After centuries of imprisonment by the evil Dr. Sloth, who transformed them into his hideous servants, the Grundos have returned to Neopia. Grundos are naturally friendly, and try sometimes too hard to be cool. They will eat almost anything.

The Grundo resembles a space alien. They were originally imprisoned by the evil Dr. Sloth, who transformed them into large, intimidating servants/slaves.

They are, however, naturally friendly, although not the brightest (When created, the Grundo's intelligence is listed as "dim witted", while all other pets start out as "average").

They were released on August 24, 2000. In the early days of the site, they were originally said to have originated from a far away planet called "Doran"; however, this has been retconned and now Grundos are originally from Neopia's moon, Kreludor. An aspect they once possessed was that they could only speak in backwards English (i.e. "olleh" meant "hello"). Now they speak normally.

Grundos, a restricted species, are unique among the various species of Neopets, in that they must be adopted from the Virtupets Space Station. There they are available in seven different colors instead of the four available to other pets. The reason for this unusual situation is that they were originally adopted by players as part of one of Neopets' plots in order to put a stop to one of Dr. Sloth's evil schemes.

They were first put up for adoption on October 24, 2000 and given a makeover on May 1, 2003 (see the Old Grundo). Grundos are the only pet that can be colored Mallow. Originally, players were able to use special characters and spaces in their names; this ability was later removed.

In the Neopets TCG, Grundos are associated with the element of light. As of June 2007, the Grundo ranked 11th out of 50+ species on the site. Over 6.3 million have been created. August 24th is Grundo Independence Day (Grundo Day).
