Kougra #1 was a re-shaded version of the original, and looked pretty
cool.
Kougra #2 was a rough sketch of a kitten-like cub.
Kougra #3 looked like
Mellish wearing a tiger costume.
Kougra #4 was a sleeker cat with big eyes and cute nose and mouth.
The designers probably thought they had a winner here.
Kougra #5 was a revamp of the previously rejected makeover, with the
stockier build of the original.
Kougra #6 was a sketch with another pronounced nose, making it look
like a koala.
Once the votes were tallied on August 5th 2004, Kougra #2 won by an
overwhelming margin, even among Kougra owners. This surprised the
designers, since many players had complained that the earlier makeover
was "too young and cute". Who would have thought an even younger, cuter
version would win? But who could resist that adorable round face? I
still believe the "pointy heads" killed the others.
Updates of the New Kougra began August 25th 2004.
But looking at the pictures below, it seems that the designers blended
the winner (#2) with their own favorite (#4) to create a hybrid that
would please everyone.
